Lindsey's Tuesday Advice Column

Everyone should do whatever they want to do.

This includes:
-date whoever you want to date.
-eat whatever you want to eat.
-work out. or not.
-spend all your money or save it all. whatever.
-wear sweats all day or be a fashionista.
-choose your favorite kind of underwear.
-hair color? go for it.
-vote for someone. or don't vote.

You do whatever you want because that's what makes you feel best. And I'll do whatever I want. And we can still be best friends.

This is dedicated to that one guy...um...you know...that guy...??

it's fall

I've been trying for the last few minutes to find a picture of the shirt that I'm wearing today so I can show it you guys, but I'm afraid it's not online. That's nearly impossible for me to believe, but my attention span of searching for this cause has run out.

Let me just tell you that the mess of brown silk covered in fall leaves, three bows, a sash, shiny buttons, and flutter sleeves is just about the most amazing fall blouse you're probably ever seen (or in this, case, not seen). You might want to see me today. I'm just sayin'.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

So it's my first day back, but I'm coming back strong. In my second post of the day I'm going to recycle an old joke...because I just can't get over how funny I was this day. Here it goes.

This is why there's so much heavy petting going on:

Utah: Orem - Mormons on average weigh 4.6 pounds more than other state residents, says a study by a Brigham Young University professor. The study found that members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints were also 14% more likely to be obese. The study suggests Mormons may be using eating as a substitute for banned indulgences such as smoking and drinking.

Welcome to Tuesday

It's cloudy and 58 degrees right now, so I'm wearing a turtleneck and jeans, and i have my space heater pointed at me going full blast. I can barely see the ocean view out the window because of all the haze. Brrrr. I think it's winter. I like winter. I like winter. I like winter. I like winter. POPT. (Power of Positive Thinking)

I just want you all to know that I did ten push ups when I got up today. I can't remember if they were the knee kind or the real kind, but they were push ups nonetheless, so it really doesn't matter right now. I am also drinking herbal tea right now instead of hot chocolate. That equals two healthy things so far.

1. ten push ups.
2. herbal tea.

I'm pretty much on a roll today, wouldn't you say?

Another thing of note: there is a rotting jack-o-lantern on my porch. I need to get rid of it. Badly. Sorry Kim. I will not post a photo of it for you guys...YET. That's all. Help. Maybe my hometeachers could come dispose of it for me? Whoever you are. :)

Cooking

On Wednesday I cooked something. The last time I cooked something besides a scrambled egg or a brownie mix (and those are like an every six week or less type of thing) was like a year ago. And that was pasta...which hardly counts. Mostly I just let Sergio do my cooking for me.

Wednesday I made potato soup. I cooked the potatoes too long so they were kind of too soft, but all in all it was a great success. Especially with lots of cheese on top. It reminded me of when I used to cook things in Provo every day and make people eat them. Like the time I made some kind of ground peanut African bar thing that was really gross. When I get married I'm going to do that cooking thing again. Or maybe sooner, like when I have a dishwasher again. :)

Advice from the north side of the office...

"Never date anyone who quotes lines from The Wedding Crashers"
-Rebecca, my wonderful former co-worker

Ooops...I've totally made that mistake...

I just finished reading an article on MSN.com called "Is your date a player?" Sometimes it baffles me how blind we are to the face the people we date are just after sex (well...not really in the Mormon world, but you know what I'm talking about). This applies to men and women. It's so simple really. Let me give you the Mormon version of the article.

1. Do they talk about making out all the time? Do they talk sexy? Text sex? Are they so flirty it kind of scares you? PLAYER.
2. Do you know they are hooking up with other people besides you? PLAYER.
3. Did you meet them online and notice that their photos are all of shots showing off their physique? Are they asking you to email them full body shots? Do they talk about what low body fat % they have? PLAYER.
4. Is the physical part of the relationship moving faster than the emotional and intellectual parts? "Someone who’s just interested in hooking up is probably not going to spend time getting to know you." PLAYER.
5. Have they hooked up with every other girl at that Huntington party you saw them at last week? PLAYER.
6. The Bootie Call. “The biggest sign that the date is headed to the bedroom [or the couch] is that the plans begin after 9 p.m.” PLAYER.
7. Is everything planned at the last minute? If you’re relationship-minded, the only appropriate response is: “Can’t make it. If you’d like to make plans in advance for another night, let me know.” PLAYER.
8. Do the locations of your no-so-dates somehow lend themselves to makeouts? PLAYER.
9. Does he/she talk about other guys/girls? PLAYER.
10. Is your date "present" when they are with you? Do they look you in eye? Do they pay attention to you and how you're feeling and acting? Good. Cause if they don't... PLAYER. (or perhaps they are just really awkward around you.)

Flying

Delta emails me when it's time to check in ahead of time.

Southwest does not. Blah.
